The University of Tennessee Knoxville chapter of the Orthodox Christian Fellowship exists to serve as a place for fellowship and mutual support among all Orthodox members of the University community, as well as anyone curious about or inquiring into Orthodoxy, or seeking to learn more about Christianity in general. We welcome students of UTK, as well as college-aged people from outside UTK, from any Orthodox church, whether Greek, Russian, Bulgarian, Coptic, etc. If you are inquiring into Orthodoxy from another Christian tradition, or are simply interested in Christianity and have no affiliation with a religious tradition, we hope you will visit with us and learn a little about the Faith, as well as experience the lived life of the Church at prayer.
We meet weekly during the school year, at 6:30 on Thursday evenings, in the bottom floor of the I-House on UTK’s campus. Fr. Stephen, our chaplain, of St. Anne’s Orthodox Church (OCA), will be in attendance and will lead discussion and prayer (usually either Compline or Evening Prayer). If you are new to Orthodoxy, our weekly prayers together at OCF can provide a fairly accessible entry-point into the vital life of prayer that is at the heart of Orthodoxy. We also eat together before discussion and prayers. At different points in the year we will try to have get-togethers outside of the I-House; in addition, we try to sponsor and carry out events through the year. Last year- Spring 2009- we co-hosted a discussion panel between an Orthodox Priest, Jewish Rabbi, and Muslim Imam, which went quite well (despite the slightly improbably nature of the idea!), and hopefully this year we will be able to host events at a campus-wide level.
